Challenging to measure, the climate is most often felt, experienced and known upon entering the environment.  These spaces are most often characterized as having a welcoming and positive, safe and accepting and empowering environment that fully engages students in their learning and inspires them to work toward high levels of achievement  The elements of learning climate are welcoming and positive, safe and accepting, and empowering.

    • Welcoming and Positive: Staff are optimistic, respectful, and encourage involvement of all stakeholders.
    • Safe and Accepting/Inclusive: Systems are established for physical and emotional safety for all.
    • Empowering: Staff and students are connected to the system, believe they are important members of the system, and take from and contribute to the system 
    • Engagement: Students exhibit a high degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism and passion while they are learning.
    • Engagement: Student participation is active and thoughtful prior to and during instruction.
  • Secondary Level
